Speciality Fillers
Micaceous Iron Oxide: PORTAFER® AP has been specifically developed as an active filler for anti-corrosion coatings. Its laminar-plate structure and high laminarity provide exceptional physical strength, barrier effect, and UV reflectivity, ensuring protection. This product is highly effective in intermediate and topcoat paints as well as primer systems. Its effectiveness has been proven in protecting steel structures such as electrical towers, road and railway bridges, chemical plants, ports, and marine installations. The finer versions are particularly preferred in airless spray systems as they prevent nozzle blockages.
Bauxite: PORTALUM consists mainly of magnetite (Al2O3) corundum and is known as the hardest material after diamond. It is used in highly abrasion-resistant paints, dry bulk cargo ship holds, silos, floor coatings, concrete, and refractory materials. It serves as a functional filler in many applications where high abrasion resistance is required.
Glassflake: GLASSFLAKE is made of borosilicate glass flakes with an extremely smooth and highly laminar structure. Transparent and with a neutral mass tone, the flake morphology and their parallel alignment create a barrier structure that prevents the passage of gases and liquids, offering exceptional corrosion resistance. With 40 years of expertise in coating formulations and advanced technologies, Glassflake delivers proven-quality products.
Wollastonite: Wollastonite is a naturally occurring calcium silicate material with a fibrous-rod-like structure. Its fine particle size and high aspect ratio enhance heat and scratch resistance. It can partially replace glass fibers in reinforced plastics and is used in applications such as passenger compartment trims, dashboards, bumpers, HVAC housings, battery support trays, and wheel covers. In paints and coatings, it reduces film cracking. Wollastonite’s passivation capability makes it highly effective in formulating anti-corrosion paints. In powder coatings, it provides resistance to chipping and cracking. Long-fiber products with high oil absorption can also be used as thickeners.
Huntite: PORTAFILL is a carefully selected, naturally occurring layered sedimentary mineral composed mainly of partially hydrated magnesium-calcium carbonate. The standardized quality of PORTAFILL® is guaranteed by an ISO 9001-certified quality management plan. The chemical composition of the raw material and product is closely monitored, and particle size is kept within a narrow range.
Due to its plate-shaped particles, fineness, and high brightness, PORTAFILL® H 5 is an efficient filler for TiO2 in paint, paper, and cardboard applications. Its laminar particle shape and fine particle size make PORTAFILL an effective rheology (flow) modifier in aqueous suspensions and other liquids. Therefore, it is also a valuable additive in adhesives, sealants, and plastisols.
It can partially or entirely replace fumed silica in many applications, enhancing consistency, providing a denser and shinier structure, and increasing flame retardancy. Additionally, it has applications as a protective agent for olive trees.
